If you need to hear some real first world problem to cry (me a river) for, than how about Killzone Shadow Fall not really sporting 1080p. Well, that was the very real problem for someone who sued Sony.
I never knew nor cared so far, but we all know by now, Killzone Shadow Fall runs at 1080p in singleplayer, but in multiplayer, the resolution is cut to 960 x 1080 — a halving of the horizontal pixel count. This is done in order to ensure a more fluid frame rate for the fast paced multiplayer matches.
While most gamers won’t notice or care about the difference, some lawyers from law firm Edelson found people they could bundle into a class-action lawsuit in California. The lawsuit demands $5 million from Sony, and most of that money will be the fee of the lawyers, of course.
Sony advertised that the game ran at 1080p, both in commercials and on the box, but it technically doesn’t in multiplayer. Of course, the game uses certain tricks to upscale and make the difference minimal, but it’s still not true 1080p.
While it may be disappointing to some that the multiplayer doesn’t run at full 1080p, it’s hardly a reason for a class-action lawsuit, where it’s usually the lawyers who get millions while the gamers get a tiny settlement in the form of, perhaps, some free DLC.
And this isn’t the first time these same lawyers are engaged in suing game companies: they’ve sued Zynga, EA, and they’ve sued SEGA and Gearbox for the Aliens Colonial Marines debacle. Actually, we’re not surprised at all they sued SEGA and Gearbox — that was one awful game.
