The PlayStation 4 wasn’t especially such a big success in Japan as it was in North America and Europe. That’s not to say that it’s not selling well, but the sales numbers and the excitement are not at such scale what they were for the PS2 and PS3.
Let’s not forget either, that Sony also released the Metal Slime PS4 edition which came bundled with the latest Dragon Quest game, which likely had a positive impact on sales as well.
Still, it’s hard to take lightly the impact of Grand Theft Auto 5: it was without question the bestselling PS4 game last week, selling more than 82,000 copies.
The Xbox One on the other hand, is practically non-existent in Japan. The console sold just 724 units last week, and 790 units the week before. In fact, the Xbox One was outsold by the Vita TV in Japan.
