What a “nice gesture” from the hackers of Lizard Squad on the day of Christmas Morning: the PlayStation Network is currently offline due to their attack. We are talking about the same “people” who a few months ago grounded an airplane carrying a Sony executive.
To annoy every gamers all around the world, The Lizard Squad has targeted both the systems of Microsoft’s Xbox Live and Sony’s PlayStation Network. According to Sony’sown PSN status page, the network is offline yesterday. Microsoft reported that its Xbox Live service is “limited“, but in reality, it’s down and just as useless as PSN.
This isn’t the first occasion that PSN is under attack. It is probably still the standard DDOS procedure — just firing a bunch of traffic at the service until its servers are overloaded.
Sony has delivered a statement via Twitter, a pretty simple string of words, saying “We are aware that some users are reporting issues accessing PSN this morning. Thanks for your patience as we investigate”. Microsoft released a comparable statement.
This is perhaps the a worse time for PS4 gamers. Many probably expected to spend the day relaxing and playing games, and worse, all the people who received a PlayStation 4 for Christmas will now have to wait until they can fully enjoy their new console.
The Lizard Squad claimed the attacks via Twitter, tweeting that the attack would stop of the their message was retweeted more than 10,000 times. It has since been retweeted more than 18,000 times, but the networks are still down.
10,00RTS and we will stop smacking #Xbox and #PSN offline
