Zombie Army will become a Trilogy with a brand new addition. Previously these games were just expansions to the main Sniper Elite series, but from the 6th of March the Zombie series will be available in retail form. Rebellion is creating something truly from the heart.
According to Rebellion’s co-founder Jason Kingsley the company has been never better since it was created 20 years ago. Their own titles such as Aliens Versus Predator, my old favorite Rogue Trooper, the Sniper Elite series, and our article’s topic Zombie Army Trilogy. The games served as a special extra addon next to the main series, and they were not available on the Playstation. This however is changing, as the developer realized that their graphics engine called Asura works really great under Sony’s console, so they decided that due to the easy programming, and for higher profit, they’ll unleash hell onto the PS4.
What if…
Zombie Army Trilogy takes place during the end of the Second World War. The Germans are losing, and the only option is to raise the white flag. The Führer however cling to the idea of victory by tooth and nail, so using his last resort, initiates Plan Z, aka raising the dead with the help of the occult. The dead army rises, and the Allies are yet again in a tight spot, as hordes of undead roam Europe, with only one objective, to kill anyone who is against their Leader.
Where it all begins again
This is where we take over, the objective is simple, eliminate the reanimated Nazi Army, and kill Hitler. We’ll have equipment for it, as the developer will provide us with 25 historically accurate weapons, of course not all of them can be used at first. By progressing with the story you’ll be able to get them.
At first we’ll get the Springfield gun, the Thompson machine gun, and a Colt pistol. The undead will also have a serious arsenal to fight us. Gone are the days when they would just bite you, or when Günther would arrive with a shovel or with a pipe. Sometimes zombies now attack us with a machine gun.
One, maximum four players in the country side
What I really enjoy is how the number of zombies align to the players in a match. If alone a place had 10 zombies in a 3-4 mode coop, it will have 30. Due to this Rebellion is focusing also on online multiplayer, as it’s more fun to reach Berlin this way. It’s great to see the developers listening to the fans, and because of this there will also be four selectable female characters, raising the roster to eight. There will be a new mode created, the horde mode where the team will have to defend itself against endless hordes. Also five new maps were created. The trilogy itself contains 3 x 5 missions, and we’ll be able to say we killed every enemy again from the Second World War.
Personally I think that Rebellion still has a long way to go in terms of creating a proper atmosphere. As no matter the dead, and decaying environment, I feel that Spec Ops The Line holds up better in this regard.
What I’ve seen here is a little gray. In terms of music, sometimes there is, sometimes there isn’t, but most of the times it plays the same tunes. The design could have been better for the visuals. Although the World Wars were shown like this, I don’t think it rained all the time.
