Eurogamer had a nice comparison between the PlayStation 4 and the PC version of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt with a single aim – they wanted to see, if getting the PS4-level settings with a low-end PC is possible or not. Framerate was also a target: this time around, 60fps is not reachable, as the console versions are locked on 30, they wanted to build a PC that could keep that framerate going.
The CPU and the GPU chosen for this test against the PS4 was the Intel Core i3-4130 and the GeForce GTX 750 Ti respectively, although the GPU needed to be overclocked to keep the framerate above 30. This is the third panel on the comparison video below. On the AMD front, the selected GPU was an R7 260X – both graphics cards have 2 gigabytes of VRAM on them. Their recommended settings are these – you can pretty much get the same experience with them.
V-Sync: On
Resolution: 1920×1080
Nvidia Hairworks: Off
Number of Background Characters: Low (console versions seem to have an even lower setting, going by the tests)
Shadow Quality: Medium
Terrain Quality: Medium
Water Quality: High
Grass Density: Medium
Texture Quality: Ultra
Foliage Visibility Range: Medium
Detail Level: Medium
Ambient Occlusion: SSAO
All post effects on except vignetting.
By the way on the PC the 1.05 version is already out, and as far as we know, the console versions will have their 1.05 version soon as well. Let’s take a look at the comparison video now, because it’s saying more than our written words:
