Yesterday, when Deep Silver, the publishers of the Dead Island franchise announced in a very short statement that Yager is out of the development of Dead Island 2, everyone was shocked. But now, Yager also issued a statement about this departure. As it’s only fair to listen to both sides of the story, let’s hear what the German developers have to say about this…
Timo Ullmann, the CEO of Yager Group said that his team has been working on Dead Island 2 enthusiastically, to push the quality up to a new level. However, the respective visions of the publisher and the developer for the project slowly slid away from each other, effectively dropping the game onto the ground. So, the German team’s main focus is now on Dreadnought, cooperating with Six Foot, and it will be published by Grey Box, but they also have unannounced projects in progress as well. Dreadnought will also be shown at Gamescom.
So it’s likely that Dead Island 2 was rushed by Deep Silver to release it earlier and Yager refused to publish a low quality game. It’s sad.
