There was a surprise unofficial announcement in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania at the Distant World event by a conductor: according to Arnie Roth, a Final Fantasy XII HD remake or port is actually being developed by Square Enix! That’s surprising: there wasn’t an official announcement of this yet, so it’s likely to get announced at Gamescom, or the Tokyo Game Show. (The surprise effect is worn off by then, so thanks Mr. Roth for the information though!)
It doesn’t seem like a fake thing, because there’s even a video recording of Arnie talking about it. If he says this, it’s likely that he has a contract with Square Enix to record the soundtrack. On top of this, Roth and Hitoshi Sakamoto (he’s one of the composers for Final Fantasy XII back in 2006, definitely one of the insiders for the game) was asked about this game personally, but they said it cannot be discussed, but Roth added that „it’s happening”. We’re going to hear more about it later then.
So there’s nothing left for us than to sit back and wait for the official confirmation by Square Enix – it looks like they plan to rework several older FF titles: VII, X/X-2, Type-0, XII? They want to cashgrab, it’s sure.
