It seems that the PlayStation 3 will be soon discontinued by Sony, who are likely to halt the manufacturing of the previous generation console to a grinding halt. We say this because Sony is about to discontinue the shipping of the PS3 to retailers in New Zealand. Seeing how the console has been on sale there since 2007, it makes sense, and if the Japanese company pulls it off, then soon, the march of this console is going to end worldwide.
Is there a good reason to do this? Absolutely: thanks to evolution, and the upcoming – and so far, unannounced – worldwide price cut of the PlayStation 4 means it is going to be more reachable to a bigger audience, and the PS3 will be ten years old today. Change is necessary, it’s just a question of time to become official; we already think that the year of 2016 will be the last full year of the PlayStation 3, and then, the lamp will be shut down and the story will end. Just one question remains: will Sony slowly roll this out on smaller markets first? This would also make sense…
