DOOM: Closed alpha gameplay [VIDEO]

Are we suddenly taking a Quake-ish turn here? It looks so, although since that is another classic franchise by id Software, it wouldn’t be a surprise. After 2011’s RAGE, Doom 4 would have been the next id game, until its concept was trashed and deleted, forcing a restart on the project. We now get to see some footage of the closed alpha for the multiplayer.

And the footage does remind us a lot of Quake III Arena, which was a really popular multiplayer first person shooter next to Unreal Tournament 15 years ago. It seems like history will repeat itself, because next to “UT4” (this is how we call the new Unreal Tournament game), DOOM can also claim a spot for the multiplayer FPS glory.

The game looks really fast paced, and the style is classic Doom-style. The weapon list was leaked yesterday – and we wrote about it as well: plasma rifle, rocket launcher? Yep, definitely having some nods towards older id Software games there.
We’d have seen more of the multiplayer though, because the launch for this game is quite far…
