Sony is choosing a new strategy to express some form of exclusivity on some PlayStation 4 games’ covers. This strategy will have one of three labels put onto the upper right corner of the case. We can – probably – expect these to be seen:
– Exclusive, first-party development
– Timed exclusivity (the game will be released for the Xbox One and/or PC after this timeframe ends)
– Console exclusive (the game will be available for the PC as well, but not on other consoles)
However, Sony didn’t announce this yet – we found out this plan via another leak. You can see Street Fighter V‘s case below: the front’s upper right corner has that PS4 Console Exclusive Game label on it.
While it’s a godsend for those who aren’t knowledged in gaming and just own a PS4 and the „stranger to games” family members that buy games as gifts for their beloved ones, it is a somewhat awkward way of marketing. It’s only available at us, only here for a certain time, only on this console, et cetera.
We can defend this approach from a different route, though: seeing how the PlayStation 4 sold over 36 million in a little less than 2 1/4 years, not to mention the games are becoming mainstream and widely popular, it makes sense.
