There’s no Shenmue III without QTEs!

Yu Suzuki talked more about Shenmue III in his interview with Red Bull (!). The story will continue less than a year after the second game. Ryo is travelling from Hong Kong to Guilin to continue his martial arts training.

Suzuki knows very well that things have changed since the launch of Shenmue II – he brings up the controls as an example. Don’t expect to control Ryo with the D-Pad, let those analogue sticks be used! Suzuki made something that was ahead of its time. Before the launch of GTA 3, he already had laid the ground rules of the sandbox genre with open cities, shops that open and close at fixed points and so on.

Shenmue III will also have QTEs – this was another addition to gaming by Suzuki himself. This quick time event thing has been used worldwide in a lot of games – press this button at the right time to not die. (The Order: 1886 was one of the notorious examples of QTEs in 2015.) Yu Suzuki says that he wants to create the next step in the evolution of QTEs.

We still don’t know the budget of the game that Ys Net (the developers) can spend as Suzuki cannot talk about it due to „confidentiality reasons”.

Anikó, our news editor and communication manager, is more interested in the business side of the gaming industry. She worked at banks, and she has a vast knowledge of business life. Still, she likes puzzle and story-oriented games, like Sherlock Holmes: Crimes & Punishments, which is her favourite title. She also played The Sims 3, but after accidentally killing a whole sim family, swore not to play it again. (For our office address, email and phone number check out our IMPRESSUM)
