The release of last year’s Handsome Collection was intentional – 2K and Gearbox are slowly pouring more resources into the third numbered Borderlands game. It’s about time, as the second episode has been out for over three years now! Since then, we have moved on to the next console generation as well.
Gearbox only has a few employees working on Borderlands 3 at the moment. They have a good reason for that: their strategy is always to focus on mainly one AAA game at a time – that would be Battleborn right now, due to release in May. This is why Borderlands is somewhat ignored at the moment, but when the team is done with Battleborn, they are shifting over to the cooperative FPS. (The question is, will it be related to Telltale’s Tales from the Borderlands?)
Don’t expect Borderlands 3 to be out shortly, the development is still in very early stages. We’d be happy to see even this game launch by the end of 2018. However, if the game does release around that time, we wonder what platform it’s being developed for. After all, rumours say that the PS4/X1 duo wouldn’t be out for that long.
