Square Enix didn’t get a lot of money from the 2014 Thief game, although the publisher doesn’t want to throw it back into the trash bin after this event. Instead, there are long-time plans for this franchise. We’re saying this because there’s something in progress what we haven’t heard of for a long time.
Thief is going to get a movie adaptation, and the staff is slowly shaping, too. According to Hollywood Reporter, the company that got the licenses to create the film is Straight Up Films. The producers are going to be Roy Lee and Adrian Askarieh. Lee worked on The Departed while Askarieh was one of the producers for Hitman: Agent 47. The two of them were together at the DICE Summit, and they teased an upcoming film based on a Square Enix franchise. That is now confirmed to be the Thief project. We also know the writers behind the screenplay: they are Adam Mason and Simon Boyes, their role was the same recently for Misconduct.
It looks like the Thief movie can slowly shift into production, although we don’t know who the actors are going to be.
