We’ve seen some interesting adaptations of multiple franchises – some of them were alright, and some of them flat out sucked. However, there’s now a musical in progress based on something that launched two decades ago. What could it be?
No, it’s not Tomb Raider (Lara is getting another movie instead) – it’s Resident Evil! The musical adaptation got a very creative name: Musical Resident Evil. According to Kotaku’s information, Capcom is making a brand new storyline for the musical, so Tokyo will not see a re-imagination of a formerly known story. Musical Resident Evil will move to Osaka in November.
We don’t know if Capcom plans to move the musical out of Japan, but, at least, the producer knows the franchise very well. Hiroyuki Kobayashi, a long-time Resident Evil worker, has already been a programmer for the first game, he was a producer for the 2002 remake, and he even ended up as an executive producer in RE6.
Ubisoft moves towards movies while Capcom targets theatres – an interesting turn of events.
