MOVIE NEWS – Numerous huge portions of Marvel’s Phase Three have been concluded. We can see know who’s playing Doctor Strange, Black Panther, and Spider-Man. We are aware who is the director for the sequels to Thor and Guardians of the Galaxy. One of the only secret projects on the Phase Three slate would be Captain Marvel, so Cinemablend asked Marvel’s Kevin Feige to find out what we could about the scheduled solo movie.
In the course of the press event in Los Angeles for Captain America: Civil War, Cinemablend’s Eric Eisenberg made an interview with President Kevin Feige from Marvel Studios about the current and future goings-on in the MCU. Eric inquired Feige if Carol Danvers – much like Black Panther and Spider-Man – would be introduced in a different Marvel movie before her standalone solo film, slated for March 8, 2019. Eric explicitly asked Kevin Feige if we’ll see Captain Marvel before her solo movie, or if Marvel’s holding on to her. Feige told Eisenberg:
We’re holding onto [her].
In fact, the only place it would be logical to introduce Captain Marvel before her standalone solo film would have been in The Avengers: Infinity War – Part One, which is scheduled for May 4, 2018. Before that gathering of heroes, Marvel release a solo Black Panther movie, a solo Doctor Strange movie, a solo Spider-Man movie, Thor: Ragnarok and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. Guardians could have addressed the introduction of Carol Danvers so that she could have battled together with her fellow Marvel warriors in Infinity War – Part One. Currently, though, Captain Marvel will get her introduction, then likely join the fray against Thanos in 2019’s Infinity War conclusion.
In truth, with its placement in March of 2019, Captain Marvel could have a significant role in leading right into the way that the Marvel heroes figure out how to defeat Thanos. Maybe she holds the key to the Final Infinity Stone that Thanos seeks?
But who will play this vital Marvel character? Kevin Feige also told Fandango over the weekend that we’ll likely hear news later this summer (maybe at Comic-Con?). Feige said:
I think we’ll be announcing a filmmaker in the next month or two, and probably some cast members later in the summer, at the end of the summer.
Like we said at the beginning, the other Phase Three films on Marvel’s slate have made serious progress, so news on the Captain Marvel front makes sense. So tell us, are you happy that Marvel’s waiting to roll Carol Danvers out in her solo movie first? Or did you want to see her battling alongside Thor or the Guardians before she got a chance to shine in her March 2019 movie? Weigh in below.
