Robert Downey Jr. Returns in ‘Sherlock Holmes 3’, Shooting Starts This Year

MOVIE NEWS – Much time passed since we’ve even heard about Sherlock Holmes 3, which is a continuation of the blockbuster series hit Sherlock Holmes. The first movie was released in 2009 under the direction of Guy Ritchie. It was then followed in 2011 by Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows. Today, actor Robert Downey Jr. has told journalists that he is back as Holmes in the next sequel and that Guy Ritchie will direct the movie again. There is no information yet on whether or not Jude Law will take his role again as Watson, but the supposition is that he’ll also return for a third movie.

Robert Downey Jr. also revealed while he spoke with ShortList.com, that the production will set begin on a third Sherlock Holmes as early as the end of 2016. The Downey Jr. was occupied playing the iconic Marvel superhero Iron Man over the past couple of years in three standalone movies, two Avengers adventures, and he co-stars in next month’s Captain America: Civil War. He’s eager to take his Holmes role again. He spoke about that to journalists:

“We’re talking about it right now. We can do some preliminary stuff. If we could shoot it on Skype, we could have the whole [movie] done in a week. When we’re making those Sherlock movies, it is off the hook. [So] we’ll attempt to make one this year. It is a problem to go and do those films. I’m tired all the time, but I’m so excited about it.”

Robert Downey Jr. acknowledges the fact that his demanding Marvel schedule has kept Sherlock Holmes 3 from moving forward for more than five years. Which probably doesn’t make Warner Bros., the rival of Disney rival very enthusiastic. In the last Holmes adventure: A Game of Shadows, Holmes faked his death after a fight with his legendary nemesis Moriarty.

Robert Downey Jr. will arrive in London, U.K. soon for the promotion of the theatrical release of Captain America: Civil War in the country. As soon as he comes, he will have appointments set to discuss the film with director Guy Ritchie, who directed both previous movies, and who is also presently beginning a King Arthur franchise for Warner Bros. with the first titled Knights of the Roundtable. Says Downey Jr. about meeting with Ritchie. Downey Jr. had a funny comment about that:

“He’ll say ‘I’ll meet you on my bike,’ all that sort of macho stuff. I’ve always considered riding a bike in London as taking your life into your hands. Guy makes it look easy.”

Still, there are no story details announced for Sherlock Holmes 3 at this time. No further cast members have been named either. We can still expect, that Rachel McAdams will take Irene Adler’s role again. At this period, Warner Bros. has not set a release date, but we might hope to see the movie sometime in late 2017 or early 2018.
