UPDATE:
At the end of Ubisoft‘s E3 conference, Yves Guillemot, CEO of the company, has talked about creative freedom in his speech.
He was probably shocked to see that after E3, Paris-based Vivendi raised its stake in Ubisoft yet again: they now own 20.1 percent of the company.
Guillemot‘s speech was probably an SOS-call to save Ubisoft from a hostile takeover by Vivendi. Previously we wrote about how he’s afraid to see that happen…
ORIGINAL:
Ubisoft has been preparing for a hostile takeover for a long time. Yves Guillemot, CEO of Ubisoft is ready for the worst possible outcome if Vincent Bolloré steps in as the representative of Vivendi. The Paris-based company continuously raises their stake in both Gameloft and Ubisoft.
Guillemot’s fear is understandable: Vivendi recently raised their stakes to 17.7 percent in Ubisoft. Bolloré also expressed his will to participate in the board of directors, despite saying that he and Vivendi don’t want to take control of Ubisoft. That sounds like a discrepancy. Remember, in 2007; Vivendi was the company behind the creation of Activision Blizzard, which was eventually left behind six-seven years later.
It is possible that Vivendi will have the majority of stakes by the end of this year in both French companies. It doesn’t sound like a good plan at the moment, though – we will have to wait how things go…
