Last year we had Star Wars Battlefront from DICE, in 2016, we can expect a PSVR-exclusive experience, plus we have also heard rumors about a possible sequel to Republic Commando. We can also draw another line on the wall because an announcement dropped by on May 4. (This was on purpose, so we can see why Electronic Arts picked yesterday.)
EA announced that next to Visceral, DICE, Capital Games, BioWare, Motive, and who knows who else, Respawn Entertainment stepped in to work a new Star Wars game. It is going to be a third-person title. Respawn exploded onto the gaming scene with the Xbox/PC Titanfall (its sequel is coming to the PS4, too), but now they have two titles simultaneously in development.
There’s a sharp twist in the story, though: the lead designer of this game will be Stig Asmussen. Previously, he worked at Sony Santa Monica, and he had a directorial role in God of War III. Sony didn’t even announce why they got rid of Asmussen. In return, he will likely share a few secrets with Respawn during development…
EA‘s announcement means that the license that they got from Disney will be used multiple times in the next few years, especially if you consider how many studios are working on Star Wars games. Maybe we can hear more about Respawn‘s TPP Star Wars project at the E3.
