The Nintendo Entertainment System will return to the stores, although in a different form after two decades.
The Mini NES, which will cost sixty dollars, will come with thirty pre-installed games. Here’s the complete list from Nintendo:
- Balloon Fight™
- BUBBLE BOBBLE
- Castlevania™
- Castlevania II: Simon’s Quest™
- Donkey Kong™
- Donkey Kong Jr. ™
- DOUBLE DRAGON II: THE REVENGE
- Dr. Mario™
- Excitebike™
- FINAL FANTASY®
- Galaga™
- GHOSTS’N GOBLINS®
- GRADIUS™
- Ice Climber™
- Kid Icarus™
- Kirby’s Adventure™
- Mario Bros. ™
- MEGA MAN® 2
- Metroid™
- NINJA GAIDEN
- PAC-MAN™
- Punch-Out!! ™ Featuring Mr. Dream
- StarTropics™
- SUPER C™
- Super Mario Bros.™
- Super Mario Bros. ™ 2
- Super Mario Bros. ™ 3
- TECMO BOWL
- The Legend of Zelda™
- Zelda II: The Adventure of Link™
The box will contain an HDMI cable, a power adapter, and an NES Classic Controller as well. (This controller looks like the classic NES controller from the 1980s.) So far, it sounds good, right? Unfortunately, as with the coins, the little NES has two sides to the story.
You will not be able to expand the line-up of games, and Nintendo will not release any further titles after the launch. You get that thirty games, and that’s it, no more! You won’t be able to connect the Mini NES to the internet, either. There may be a Mini SNES or a Mini N64, too, because Nintendo‘s response to this question was the usual, suspicious „we have nothing to announce this time” answer. In case you already own an NES, don’t even think about using your cartridges – there’s no cartridge slot!
The console will be out on November 11.
