While Sony lost money on multiple branches in Q1 2016 (April-June), thanks to the PlayStation 4, the situation isn’t all hopeless.
PlayStation, which is part of the Game & Network Services segment, helped this arm of Sony get a 14.5 percent boost. This success is due to PS4 software sales (including the digital ones as well), although the PlayStation 3 software and hardware sales dropped, plus foreign exchange rates also took money out of Sony‘s pockets.
Sony is already at 43.5 million shipped PS4s, which means in Q1 2016, 3.5 million went out to the stores. Sony‘s aim is to cross the sixty million line by the end of March 2017.
The operating profit dropped by 42% year-by-year – this is mostly due to the damages in the Kumamoto earthquake, as well as the 33.7-percent drop in the Mobile Communications branch. Sony still got 427 million dollars.
It’s true: the PS4 does propel Sony forward.
