What can 3D printing technology recreate?
Do you remember Zeus from God of War III? How tall he was and how he looked like? Well, at last now you can see the „real thing” or at least how the Greeks imagined him.
A Zeus’ statue (which was almost thirteen meters tall) at Olympia was one of the seven wonders of the ancient world, but it got lost in the fifth century. The statue was in the Palace of Lausus in Constantinople, but due to a fire, it’s gone in its original form.
However, two companies, namely Stratasys and 3DPTree, recreated the statue using 3D printing technology. This 1.8-meter statue is sent to Millenium Gate Museum in Atlanta. Printing Zeus‘ body took two days, while its legs needed twenty hours to be printed, respectively. The pieces were sent to another location, where it got put together into its final form.
Jesse Roitenberg, a Stratasys-employee, said that 3D printing „is not just for engineers, it’s not just for designers – it’s for art, it’s for archaeologists.”
Who knows what else will be brought back to life with this technology?
