King Arthur Storyline Confirmed by Transformers 5 Set Photos?

MOVIE NEWS – New pictures originating from the set of Michael Bay‘s Transformers: The Last Knight indicates a medieval connection.

Michael Bay is currently shooting his latest film in the Transformers franchise, Transformers: The Last Knight. Although we have seen new appearances of many of the Autobots and some behind the scenes videos, most details of the story for the movie has been kept under wraps so far. Nevertheless, several new set photos apparently confirm a huge, rumored plot detail, that The Last Knight will in fact have ties to King Arthur, and the fabled wizard Merlin.

BBC not long ago ran a report that actors from the movie have been spotted filming on the Scottish Isle of Skye. Although that isn’t all that big of a deal in itself, the photos that the report included were pretty revealing. The photos present actors on horseback in traditional, medieval gear. This seems to point to, as the title The Last Knight implies, that this movie will connect the Transformers lore to the period of King Arthur, which has been long standing rumor that hasn’t had much evidence to support it until now that is.

Previous entries in the Transformers franchise have featured flashbacks to different time periods, so that is nothing entirely new, but this could very well be some totally bananas, crazy type stuff, even for a Transformers movie. While the film will mostly take place in present day, this flashback, and possible connection to King Arthur and Merlin, could have significant implications on the franchise. Rumors of these plot details surfaced a couple of months ago in a report from JoBlo. Warning, potential spoilers ahead. In case you missed it, here is exactly what the rumored plot of Transformers: The Last Night is going to be, according to that report.

“The story for Transformers: The Last Night will involve Optimus Prime finding his home planet, Cybertron, now a dead planet, which he comes to believe he was responsible for killing. He finds a way to bring the world back to life, but to do so; he needs to find an artifact. And of course, that artifact is on Earth. Somehow the object ties into Merlin, the magician of King Arthur lore. Apparently, the power of magic was given to Merlin by a Transformer and somehow the artifact ties into this.”

So yeah, this could be a pretty insane way to tie the Transformers more deeply into world history. Paramount has already started marketing the movie, which isn’t due out until next summer. They have already released a very cool new poster, which features Optimus Prime getting ready to do battle with a three-headed robot beast (or three separate robot heads, it is a bit hard to tell). It won’t be at all surprising if we get to see a trailer sometime in the near future, which may further show us this potential medieval connection to King Arthur and the magical Merlin.

The four films in the Transformers franchise have grossed nearly $4 billion worldwide to date and are showing no signs of slowing down. Granted, the reception for Age of Extinction was less than favorable on the critic side of things, and though it made a lot of money, fans seemed a little disappointed by it. We will have to wait and see if The Last Knight can deliver the Transformers movie fans have been waiting to see. The film sees the return of Mark Wahlberg, as well as franchise stars Josh Duhamel and Tyrese Gibson. The cast also includes Anthony Hopkins, Laura Haddock, Santiago Cabrera and Isabela Moner. Transformers: The Last Knight is set to hit theaters on June 23, 2017. Be sure to check out the new set photos for yourself below.
