Turtle Rock Studios has to work on something else, which means Evolve, just turned free-to-play on PC, will be left behind.
The developers announced in a blog post that they have to stop working on the franchise, which is owned by Take-Two. Instead, 2K‘s in-house team will take over development, so the game at least stays online. Tomorrow, at 12 PM PT, a goodbye stream is going to happen on Twitch, where the devs will share their experiences with the game, plus they will answer questions.
What’s going to happen with the planned console versions of Evolve‘s free-to-play update? Those are still under consideration, but 2K’s goal is currently to get new players, plus maintain the audience size on PC. In that case, perhaps there should be new updates, too (they stop with that as well).
Meanwhile, Evolve is considered as a „permanent” franchise by Take-Two next to Red Dead and Grand Theft Auto. What is Turtle Rock working on then? A VR game called Face Your Fears, which will be out on Halloween on Oculus Rift, along with unannounced projects.
Development may be done, but servers are staying online. @2K will run day-to-day operations in-house. https://t.co/26xYe1PJ6G
