Blizzard revealed a few plans for the Warcraft franchise at Blizzcon.
Eurogamer says that Frank Pearce, co-founder of Blizzard thinks that while they are lucky to own the source code to the original games, he doesn’t believe that these games are fun anymore today. In modern times, the first Warcraft game (Orcs & Humans) just wouldn’t cut it, and the same goes for II as well.
Pearce added that they would rather „work on amazing content” for World of Warcraft and Overwatch. (And yet, Diablo I is being remade into Diablo III?)
Blizzard‘s CEO, Mike Morhaime says that he would appreciate if Warcraft IV was a reality, but it wouldn’t be done anytime soon. He added that their focus is currently on Heroes of the Storm and Starcraft II instead of developing Warcraft IV. We need to add that Warcraft III: The Frozen Throne launched thirteen years ago, so it’s about time for something new…
Maybe we’ll hear about Warcraft IV being officially in development around 2018-19. After all, Diablo III launched roughly 12 years after Diablo II!
