MOVIE NEWS – Comic book writer Greg Rucka confirmed not that long ago that Wonder Woman has had had a women lover in the past. Since her character will have a solo movie in 2017, the likelihood of seeing Gal Gadot have an on-screen relationship with another woman is in the air. While it isn’t overly likely, the actress has revealed who she would want her lady love interest to be.
The news comes from Batman-News, which not long ago translated an interview Gal Gadot did on a talk show in Israel called Good Night with Guy Pines. During the interview, she was asked about Wonder Woman possibly having a relationship with another woman in a sequel. She didn’t dodge the question and had an answer ready to go. Here is what she had to say.
“I saw her the other day, Halle Berry. She’s so beautiful. Wow! She’s gorgeous! So… yeah, I could do it with her.”
While it isn’t at all likely that Warner Bros. would decide to make a Wonder Woman sequel which would follow a love story between two ladies, still Gal Gadot seems to welcome that newly revealed aspect of her character. In case you don’t know where this whole “Wonder Woman is bisexual” thing is coming from, Greg Rucka was asked directly by Comicosity recently if the Wonder Woman he has been working on is queer.
“Yes. I think it’s more complicated, though. This is inherently the problem with Diana Prince: we’ve had a long history of people – for a variety of reasons, including sometimes pure titillation, which I think is the worst reason – say, ‘Ooo. Look. It’s the Amazons. They’re gay!’ And when you start to think about giving the concept of Themyscira its due, the answer is, ‘How can they not all be in same-sex relationships?’ Right? It makes no logical sense otherwise. It’s supposed to be paradise. You’re supposed to be able to live happily. You’re supposed to be able – in a context where one can live happily, and part of what an individual needs for that happiness is to have a partner – to have a fulfilling, romantic and sexual relationship. And the only options are women. But an Amazon doesn’t look at another Amazon and say, ‘You’re gay.’ They don’t. The concept doesn’t exist. Now, are we saying Diana has been in love and had relationships with other women? As Nicola and I approach it, the answer is obviously yes,” told Greg Rucka to the press.
Still, we will probably not be seeing Gal Gadot in love with Halle Berry in the first Wonder Woman movie, even with reshoots happening in the next two weeks, but she will be breaking new ground in other ways. She will be front-and-center in the first female-led superhero movie of the modern era, which is something that is long overdue at this point. Not only that, but the movie was directed by a woman, namely Patty Jenkins. This movie will be something new in the superhero genre, but at least this time around, she may be having more of a traditional love interest, if any.
Aside from Gal Gadot, Wonder Woman stars Chris Pine as Steve Trevor, Robin Wright as General Antiope and Connie Nielsen as Queen Hippolyta. Other members of the cast include David Thewlis, Elena Anaya, Danny Huston, Ewen Bremner and Lucy Davis. Will we see Halle Berry as a love interest for Diana Prince in the sequel? Probably not, but it’s fun to think about. Halle Berry is technically part of the DC Movie Universe, as she played Catwoman in her solo movie back in 2004. And she also plays the older Storm in the X-Men movies, so she is certainly no stranger to the world of comic books. Though, it’s beyond unlikely that Halle Berry would reprise her role as Catwoman or appear as Storm in a DC movie. Wonder Woman is set for release on June 23, 2017. Wonder Woman 2 hasn’t been announced at this time.
