The French company believes that playing together with friends in VR is better than being limited to just one platform.
Their decision means that every VR game that will have a multiplayer aspect will allow us to play with players on other platforms. The HTC Vive, the Oculus Rift, and the PlayStation VR will not be segregated from each other, so despite the different hardware, we can play with each other without limits. With this move, a few players can look more than it usually looks. So far, Eagle Flight, Star Trek: Bridge Crew, and Werewolves Within were confirmed to be opening up to other platforms.
As Red Storm’s senior creative director David Votypka says on the Ubisoft blog, „Making our VR titles cross-platform has been a goal of ours from the start and we’re happy to announce that Eagle Flight, Werewolves Within, and Star Trek: Bridge Crew will be playable cross-platform on PSVR, Oculus Rift, and HTC Vive. Our games feature strong multiplayer experiences, so letting friends play together regardless of which headset they own will enhance the social nature of our games and let them be played the way we envisioned.”
The PlayStation VR isn’t closed from its rivals while the PlayStation 4 mostly ends up locked away from the PC and the Xbox One (Street Fighter V is an exception).
