Phil Spencer and Mike Ybarra both commented about the new Nintendo hardware after its presentation.
Ybarra, the head of engineering has said the following on Twitter: „Fun and exciting Nintendo announcement. Great time to be a gamer. Congrats Nintendo [of] America and WW teams.” Phil Spencer, head of Xbox (who probably isn’t a popular figure now after the cancellation of Scalebound) also chimed in.
„[Super] Mario [Odyssey] looked new/fresh. [The Legend of] Zelda[: Breath of the Wild] should be great. [The Switch is a] Hybrid console, will be fun to see what new game ideas come from that.”
Fair play by both gentlemen. However, the first impressions of the Nintendo Switch aren’t all rosy. With only five launch titles, the Switch has to think long-term to succeed. (After all, the Nintendo 64 launched with two games in the US: Pilotwings 64 and the revolutionary Mario 64 – Shigeru Miyamoto says the core idea of Odyssey will be similar to the latter game.)
Fun and exciting @Nintendo announcement. Great time to be a gamer. Congrats @NintendoAmerica and WW teams. #gaming #excited.
