…„something different” will take its place.
Bernd Diemer, the game’s creative producer, talked to Mashable, where he openly confirmed that Star Wars Battlefront II would have no Season Pass, but „something different” will take its place. “I cannot talk about the specifics of this, but we have something different in mind that will allow you to play longer, be [more] invested in the game without having a fragmented community,” Diemer said.
A quick explanation: the last part of his sentence is referring to 2015’s Battlefront: those who didn’t own the Season Pass and its DLCs had a tough time to find a match, as Electronic Arts and DICE have locked these players out of certain game modes and maps.
Diemer says that it is dangerous to put newer maps and post-launch game modes into the game behind a paywall (it’s about time they finally realized that!). If we don’t have to pay for the game TWICE to get all content, we can end up in a decent situation… but Electronic Arts will have to concentrate on cosmetic DLCs (and JUST those!) to be in Battlefront II, nothing else, or the system will flop.
