The Japanese game producer legend was out at Tribeca Games Festival.
Yesterday, we mentioned Sam Lake and his opinions on combining games and movies, and today, he handed over the keys to Kojima. Thanks to Gamespot, we learned that Kojima Productions is still (!) making tests with Guerrilla’s Decima engine, and the development is in an early phase, even though Death Stranding was rumored to launch in 2018. (For example. they made a restaurant setting in New York, but Kojima has explicitly stated that his game will NOT have that city as the location.)
„[Having Norman Reedus naked in the Death Stranding reveal trailer] is something I very specifically had in mind–I wanted people to see first a naked Norman,” and then from there, you will be able to see him in different costumes, in different hairstyles, different equipment–and that’s as much as I should say today,”
he said.
Kojima’s games tend to be packed with cutscenes and complex plotlines, so asking if he considers making movies is a good question. „I love movies, so definitely one day, I would love to, but right now, it’s impossible. At least until I finish Death Stranding, it’s impossible. I love films too much that maybe if I start making a movie, I would never finish it. People tell me, ‘Kojima, you’re too demanding of movies. You always find something that you will want to fix, and you will never finish a movie,’” he said.
Making Death Stranding (which is planned for PlayStation 4 (and maybe PC) complete is a good idea: having too many ideas for a movie can be a problem. Kojima would have a new idea instead of making a cinematic adaptation of one of his previous games.
