Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus’ Director Believes Gaming Is The Pinnacle Art Form Now

Movies? Music? No: gaming is on the top!

MachineGames’ creative director, Jens Matthies, who talked about his game in a video interview the last time, now discussed gaming in general with Metro GamesCentral: „I don’t know, I sometimes think about: is this a meaningful way to be spending my time? But that is the bigger question of is it meaningful to be an artist? And of course, you would be hard pressed to say that art isn’t meaningful. But then, of course, we have this art form that is considered the lowest of the low.

I consider it [gaming] the highest of the high. Because it encompasses all other art forms. To me, it is the pinnacle art form at this point. And yes, I think there is meaning in that. At least as much meaning as anything else that humans make. Yeah, there’s a tremendous amount of potential that is yet to be unlocked, within the video game medium.”

MachineGames could put in Mecha-Hitler into the third Wolfenstein game if they are allowed to make it a trilogy. Until then, Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus will arrive on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC on October 27.

Still, she likes puzzle and story-oriented games, like Sherlock Holmes: Crimes & Punishments, which is her favourite title. She also played The Sims 3, but after accidentally killing a whole sim family, swore not to play it again. (For our office address, email and phone number check out our IMPRESSUM)
