We’re covering multiple subjects this time regarding Monolith’s game.
Eurogamer revealed the mission type that will show up after completing the main plot of the game. It is called Shadow Wars, and they will only show up after conquering Mordor entirely.
Sauron will launch a counter-offensive against Talion. The attacks will be separated into stages, and each one will be harder than the previous one. The attack on your fortresses will end each time if you kill the enemy war chiefs. If you lose, the fortress will have to be reconquered, and your overlords might be kidnapped, which means you’ll have to go on a rescue mission as well. The game’s final ending (which will tie into Lord of the Rings) will only happen if you managed to defend all the attacks (or retake all lost fortresses).
Monolith also introduced a new tribe, the Terror Tribe, „a faction of Orcs who specialize in spreading fear throughout Mordor. […] As master tormentors, the Terror tribe relies on their infamous reputations to inspire fear among their enemies,” the press release says.
The developers also revealed why they made Shelob female in Shadow of War. Their creative VP, Michael de Plater, says that they consider Shelob and Gollum as „unsung heroes” – Shelob made a deal with him to destroy the Ring. Monolith finds the characters in the „gray zone” more inspirational than the fully good guys (like Gandalf and Aragorn). Shelob is at least honest about her stance, and she can take up other forms than a spider: her mother, Ungoliant, was an evil spirit, and she picked the female form just because she felt like it. That makes sense.
Middle-Earth: Shadow of War will launch on October 10 on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
