Wargaming makes a move that could launch a serious tendency with games in the same genre.
World of Tanks is an MMO, and MMOs don’t tend to have a single player campaign. However, WoT will end up getting on next week (!), as War Stories, which is going to be available on consoles only (Xbox 360, PlayStation 4, Xbox One), will be a PvE mode. It will offer solo, as well as cooperative, episodic gameplay, based on either real or fantasy events.
Quoting the press release, „War Stories consists of two campaigns with three chapters […]. Brothers in Armor focuses on Red Army soldiers fighting on the Eastern Front in Western Sherman tanks and serves as a tutorial for incoming players […]. Flashpoint Berlin follows a British solider trying to break through a Cold War-era Berlin blockade. Two additional stories are on the horizon, with an Axis invasion of Great Britain, and a fight for the fate of humanity on the brink of nuclear war in an alternate ending of the Cuban Missile Crisis.
The War Stories are told in-game through animated comic strips from comic writer Andi Ewington, with artwork from PJ Holden and Matt Timson. Their work includes the highly acclaimed Dark Souls II, Just Cause 3, Terminator, RoboCop and the Dark Horse comic series World of Tanks: Roll Out, which released earlier this year in the US and Europe. The new soundtrack will be handled by three-times BAFTA nominee Inon Zurt (Fallout 3-4, Dragon Age: Origins, Dragon Age 2, Crysis, etc.).
Xbox players will get cross-platform (X360 with X1 and vice versa), and all console owners can go for achievements or trophies. PlayStation 4 Pro and Xbox One X owners will be able to play the game in 4K resolution. What a surprise and the release is so close: August 22! (Plus it’ll be free, too!)
