Fortnite‘s (and Unreal Engine’s) creator is picking a hardliner stance.
Torrentfreak got a hold of the legal complaints filed in North Carolina against two individuals as they were „modifying and changing the game’s code, committing copyright infringement in the process.” This event happened after Epic made a blog post last week where they said they are giving no second chances to cheaters: if they are caught, they are banned!
The defendants „use cheats in a deliberate attempt to destroy the integrity of, and otherwise wreak havoc in, the Fortnite game. As Defendant[s] intend, this often ruins the game for the other players, and for the many people who watch ‘streamers,” the files say. Why did Epic bring this event to court? One of the defendants were banned nine times from the game, but he just made a new account and continued where he stopped, and he may have also been writing code for the hacks. Another claim in the lawsuits is that there was a breach of contact, as well as a circumvention of technological measures.
Both parties are sued for up to 150 thousand dollars. Meanwhile, Epic might be taken to court by Bluehole, the developers of PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds. The people behind the Unreal Engine might be in court for two different cases…
