Although Capcom‘s game required six months more than the original deadline, it finally managed to reach its sales target.
Originally, the Japanese company’s plan was the following: launch the game on January 24 on PlayStation 4 (with PlayStation VR-support), Xbox One, and PC, then get four million sales by April 1. It didn’t happen.
According to the English Resident Evil 7 website, it finally happened. Three days after the game launched, Capcom mentioned three million shipped copies, and two weeks after, it was 3.5 million. In May, Capcom wrote to its investors that the lifetime’s sales goal is ten million.
According to the NeoGAF forums, by reaching the four million sales figure, Resident Evil 7 has become the sixth best-selling title in the franchise. The top six would look something like this:
- Resident Evil 5 – 9.5 million
- Resident Evil 6 – 8 million
- Resident Evil 4 – 5.9 million
- Resident Evil/Resident Evil: Director’s Cut – 5.08 million
- Resident Evil 2 – 4.96 million
- Resident Evil 7 – 4+ million
Don’t forget, Resident Evil 7 Gold Edition launches on December 12 with the Not A Hero (free) DLC, as well as The End of Zoe (~15 dollars) DLC. This version can push the sales further than before.
