They are both figuratively and literally taking a turn off the road.
Previously, we already heard about how Playground Games, the team behind Forza Horizon, is developing a game that has no relation to cars and racing whatsoever. Now, GamesIndustry has shed some light on this mysterious project, which is going to be an open world RPG!
Playground started doing a bit of headhunting, too – they picked up Kojima Productions dev Sean Eyestone, Grand Theft Auto V level and quest designer Will Kennedy, and Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice senior designer Juan Fernandez di Simon. On paper, this list sounds powerful. They also expand into two studios: one of them will likely continue developing Forza Horizon titles, while the second team (consisting of 200 people!) will work on the RPG. With this expansion, Playground has doubled its workforce to 400 employees.
This expansion is likely related to Phil Spencer’s comments – the Xbox boss said that Microsoft would invest more into first-party developments, which could be the reason why Playground suddenly decided to step up its game. Still, we can’t wait to hear more about this RPG project!
