Although we have heard that Capcom’s game could be revealed at PlayStation Experience, there’s a ton of new information about the upcoming Devil May Cry game.
The leaker was Son of Sparda (huh, creative…) on ResetEra, and while his post was full of bullet points, we’ll try to re-edit them into paragraphs. Here goes nothing.
Originally, Devil May Cry V was intended to be announced at PlayStation Experience, but Sony apparently moved it over to E3 2018. Now, it’s unlikely to see the game announced this year. The game, which is Hideaki Itsuno’s secret project (he’s been the director since the second DMC game), has been in development for two years (the longest in the franchise). There might be some PlayStation-exclusivity, either making the game exclusive to PlayStation 4 or just being a console-exclusive.
The voice actors behind Dante, Nero, and Vergil are all returning, but no idea about Trish’ and Lady’s role yet. There will be at least two playable characters, but there might be a third one, who is „very powerful.” No info on who will be playable, but there will be some conflict between Nero and his father (!), Vergil. Mundus (or „The Prince of Darkness”) is making a return. Onyay Pheori is helping with the soundtrack (she did the song for Devil May Cry 4 Special Edition’s launch trailer), and Yuji Shimomura is returning as the cutscene director – he worked on DMC3’s, DMC4’s, and Bayonetta’s cutscenes. The characters switch during key story points in the game, which is set to happen after the events of DMC4, possibly ending the „Son of Sparda” storyline.
Gameplay-wise, hard lock on is standard, and the frame rate target is 60 FPS on consoles. The level design will be more open than previous titles in the franchise (but not as open as Souls games), similarly to Bayonetta. QTEs are planned, but they don’t exist in the game yet. There is no Stamina bar, but there is some online integration (which isn’t multiplayer PvP). The dodge system is reworked, the camera pulls back during big fights (boss fights are rumored to be ramped up), and the animations should be less stiff than before. Dante will have the Style system, planned to be smoother than before. There will also be more environment interactivity than in any previous DMC game, possibly as dynamic environment destruction/transformation in play but not on the scale of DmC thus far.
If these are all true, we’ll be surprised. One more thing, the game is planned to launch between April 2018 and March 2019 with a demo before its launch. Wow.
