Electronic Arts’ Real Reason Behind Visceral Games’ Closure Revealed!

Behind the financial decision PR-talk, there’s another reason, too…

During Credit Suisse’s investor presentation, Blake Jörgensen, Electronic Arts‘ Chief Financial Officer, has confirmed that in the past five-six years, Visceral Games‘ employee number has shrunk, which reached 80, and that is sub-scale for the publisher.

The studio tried to create a game that would have „pushed gameplay to the next level,” but Electronic Arts‘ constant reviews turned that it was „a much more linear game, that people don’t like as much today as they did five-ten years ago.” They weren’t sure that it would have returned the development investment, which is why Electronic Arts decided to shut Visceral Games down.

So, while the reason was down to the economy, the publisher simply didn’t believe that a linear game could be successful. Maybe they just thought it couldn’t have been monetized as well as an open world/multiplayer title.

Still, she likes puzzle and story-oriented games, like Sherlock Holmes: Crimes & Punishments, which is her favourite title. She also played The Sims 3, but after accidentally killing a whole sim family, swore not to play it again. (For our office address, email and phone number check out our IMPRESSUM)
