The decision of Capcom could be related to the shielding of its brand.
Sad but necessary shielding of the brand or desired return are the only two reasons why Capcom would have registered Onimusha in some of the main markets of the planet. They have shown it from the Reset Era forums, specifying that the Osaka company would have registered in many of the main markets of the industry.
There are many mythical franchises that Capcom has in the closet, but Onimusha is one of the most beloved and missed of all. It had four deliveries on PS2, Xbox and PC, and it took us to live an adventure in which folklore and history of Japan were mixed. (A bit like in the 2017 title, Nioh.) Samanosuke was its most famous protagonist: it had the appearance of the actor Takeshi Kaneshiro.
There has not been an entry of Onimusha from Onimusha: Dawn of Dreams, which featured the production of Yoshinori Ono and the direction of Koichi Kimura. It premiered exclusively for PlayStation 2 in March 2006.
