MOVIE NEWS – Lauren S. Hissrich, the head of Netflix‘ upcoming The Witcher series, struck back on Twitter against those who complain about the project.
There are people who don’t like that there are females in the writers’ and directors’ cast, as well as people of color because they believe these factors will make the series unfaithful to the original books. Hissrich got tons of complaints on Twitter, and at one point, she had enough.
If we had to quote all of it (including how writing is done (it starts at this tweet), you’d require two days of food, so we’ll just go straight to the most important quote, which was written after how two writers’ experience was compared to those who were behind The Americans, Jessica Jones, and The Tick – this response is on fire! But before that, let’s name the three confirmed writers: Jenny Klein (Daredevil, Jessica Jones), Sneha Koorse (The Americans, Constantine), Beau DeMayo (The Originals) – everyone is responsible for their episode, and Hissrich is going to supervise things. Let’s look at her reply, then:
„Have these complainers read these writers’ scripts? Have they sat with them and asked about their history with and relationship with the material? Or their favorite short stories, or how they connect with a character? Do they, in any way, know these writers at all? Because – and I’m not directing this at you, but since you’re the one who brought this up – if these complainers haven’t? Then they know jack shit about how television is made, and aren’t worthy of an opinion about writers they’ve never met.”
And this is where she just drops the microphone, leaves the podium, leaving the crowd in a shock, only for them to turn into cheering her.
