We wonder if Bethesda, the publisher, did the RAGE 2 leak intentionally or not…
id Software‘s and Avalanche‘s (Just Cause) co-development was revealed in May, but seeing how Bethesda revealed another major game that is similar in style to RAGE 2 (Fallout 76 – post-apocalyptic, open-world…), we do have to question whether it was decided by the higher-ups to avoid „cannibalisation.”
Tim Willits, id Software’s director and level designer, told GamesIndustry that the leak’s timing was „quite nice” for them, as it meant they didn’t have to compete with a „55 thousand ton gorilla.” That refers to Fallout 76.
Willits also said that it wasn’t intentional, though, but they sped up the process to the announcement with the leak. He added that he considers RAGE‘s sequel as „post-post-apocalyptic” to avoid „50 shades of brown” seen in the original game seven years ago.
We can’t believe him, but okay – RAGE 2 will not launch this year on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC, but in 2019. With this move, Bethesda probably wants to avoid two of their major games to launch close to each other. (They did it last year with The Evil Within 2 and Wolfenstein II…)
