An expensive yet unique collector’s edition from Capcom.
Resident Evil 2 Remake is going to get a Premium Edition (https://www.e-capcom.com/shop/g/gC00002682/) on PlayStation 4, which is roughly 972 dollars with taxes converted (107784 Japanese Yen). It will be available both with the regular and the Z Edition of the game (the latter contains more graphical violence than the former). Let’s see why on Earth this package costs this much.
The Premium Edition is going to contain a Bluetooth keyboard based on QwerkyToys’ QwerkyWriter, inspired by the classic Lexington typing machine. (You could save at typewriters in case you forgot.) This keyboard can be used both with PCs and smartphones. The Premium Edition will contain everything from the Collector’s Edition, which we discussed before (a Leon figure, a poster, an artbook, a digital soundtrack, etc…).
The Limited Edition has the game and the keyboard only for 89424 yen (806 dollars), or, if you want nothing more than the keyboard, you can buy that as well, but it still costs 730 dollars (81000 yen).
Everyone who purchases any edition of the game from e-Capcom will get one of four „Ink Ribbon” roll of masking tapes, randomly picked. Those who buy the Premium Edition of the game will get all four. (Ink Ribbon – you had to use these to save at typewriters. In short, it meant the number of times you could save in the game.)
Unfortunately, there’s no word of a Western release, which means the keyboard will likely be exclusive to Japan, and importing it would cost a fortune. Oh well. Resident Evil 2 Remake is out on January 25 on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
