Codemasters‘ newest developer diary tries to answer this question in a close to ten-minute long video.
F1 2018 starts to get some preview videos, and even though the build is nearly two months old in them, our impressions aren’t that good. In fact, this year’s F1 game doesn’t seem to be much of a difference from F1 2017.
Of course, there is a bit of improvement by the ERS deployment system’s implementation. We can now decide on how much ERS we use over the course of a lap. If we use the car on max power, the battery won’t be full the next lap as our braking will not harvest enough energy to refill it entirely. (And the automatic usage doesn’t seem to be effective.)
The physics, the main feature of this developer diary, also changed: Codemasters have reworked the chassis and the suspension physics, and thus, the tire and the carcass temperature will both play a more prominent role in the handling than in previous years. (However, 2018’s cars don’t seem to be better regarding handling than in 2017, but it might have been changed since.)
F1 2018 will launch on August 24 on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. If the fourth, final dev diary arrives, we will put all four together into one location.
