We’ve learned some details about how Doom Eternal will take advantage of the power of the different consoles.
Marty Stratton, executive producer of Doom Eternal has confirmed to Eurogamer, that the Switch version of the game will run at 30FPS. According to him, Doom (2016) runs with the same framerate without any compromises that would affect the vision of the game. Switch players back then got the full Doom experience and this is the plan in the case of Doom Eternal as well.
As for the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 versions, these will run at 60FPS. The engine was built in a way to be able to hold 60FPS steadily, but it achieves this framerate in Doom Eternal with much more complex gameplay systems and better visuals than players can see in Doom (2016).
By the way, at QuakeCon, the question was asked how the game will support PS4 Pro and Xbox One and the answer to this was pretty straightforward and usual: both versions will aim to hit 4K resolution.
One more thing: the Switch version is being developed by Panic Button, the studio that is responsible for the first game’s port as well – aside from this, they also ported Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus to the Switch.
Doom Eternal doesn’t have a release date yet.
