The football player is facing accusations of raping a woman in 2009 in Los Angeles.
The Guardian reports that the Las Vegas police has reopened the case about Cristiano Ronaldo after the accuser has publicly complained to Der Spiegel. The rape allegedly happened on June 13, 2009, but the victim at the time did not provide a location or the suspect’s description.
Ronaldo strenuously denies the allegation on Twitter by saying that „rape is an abominable crime that goes against everything that he is and believes in.” Electronic Arts sent a statement to Eurogamer, which follows: „We have seen the concerning report that details allegations against Cristiano Ronaldo. We are closely monitoring the situation, as we expect to cover athletes and ambassadors to conduct themselves in a manner that is consistent with EA’s values.” EA Sports‘ FIFA Twitter account has removed Ronaldo, but the publisher claims it happened due to marketing purposes, as they rotate images.
Although it’s weird that the alleged victim has not provided nor a location, neither a description nine years ago, it’s unexpected to bring back the case. We’ll keep an eye on the situation as it unfolds – it’s too early to judge.
