There’s an investigation by Brazil’s Public Ministry of the Federal District and Territories (MPFDT for short from now on) against Gabe Newell‘s company.
The game in question is called Bolsomito 2k18, which launched in early October. In it, the players’ goal is to purge Brazil from „the evils of communism,” and „the growing corruption and inversion of values that plague the society.” Somehow, this game didn’t fall into the „trolling” category (which was defined by Steam previously, and we discussed it as well), but the Brazilian government doesn’t stop.
Eurogamer reports that the MPFDT has launched an investigation against Bolsomito 2k18‘s devs, BS Studios, and the document says the investigation is happening because the game was released „two days before the first round of the Brazilian elections.” The game’s content also „clearly intends to harm [the] Presidency of the Republic and thereby embarrass the 2018 elections,” „causing collective moral damages to the social, gay and feminist movements.”
The game’s protagonist is a reference to Jair Bolsonaro, a politician, who doesn’t hold back from using misogynistic, homophobic, and racist rhetoric. The MPFDT already asked Valve to pull the game from Steam, but it’s still available for four dollars/euros.
