An old name is making a return.
During Portland Gaming Expo, the new Intellivision console was indeed revealed, which will be cheap – that’s reasonable, as we’re talking about remastered 2D games -, but due to its online functions, the Intellivision Amico might not be a one-time-usage console, primarily due to how we can download an app to use our phone as a controller.
Intellivision also joined the Entertainment Software Association as the fourth member after Sony, Microsoft, and Nintendo. Aside from Intellivision, Atari, and iMagic titles, there will also be new games, but we have to point out that their rating will be limited to E10+, meaning the Entertainment Software Rating Board will recommend these games to ages ten and older. The console will come with HDMI, USB, and WiFi, and the online store will have at least 20 games, all complete with trophies and achievements.
The Intellivision Amico is set to launch on October 10, 2020, for a 149-179 dollar price range. The games will cost around 3-8 dollars, digitally. Truckin, ToeJam & Earl, Caveman Ninja – there are a few interesting titles in the line-up. You can see the website here. It will be a family console, but we have yet to see how successful it could become. The controller reminds us of an Apple iPod… especially how it has a 3.5″ touchscreen!
