Codemasters has set solid foundations with the first game – building the sequel on them is the obvious decision instead of restarting from zero.
DiRT Rally has kicked Milestone’s and Kylotonn’s games off the road without much trouble, even with Codemasters not having the WRC license (Kylotonn has it after Milestone has lost it). They „only” have the World Rallycross Championship license, but that was represented nicely in DiRT 4.
DiRT Rally 2.0‘s developer diary tells us via Ross Gowing, the game designer, that Codemasters doesn’t work on the sequel from scratch, as they build on the basics of the first game to create another potentially outstanding title, and, if they indeed listen to the community’s feedback (as heard in the video), then, with the purist approach for the simulator-fans, the game could reach the experience levels set by „its grandfather,” namely Colin McRae Rally 2.0.
DiRT Rally 2.0 is out on February 26 (or February 22 if you get the Deluxe Edition…) on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. The VR-support is planned for a later date.
