Al Lowe, one of the famous ex-Sierra On-Line developers, is selling his archive.
Lowe, aged 72, previously created Leisure Suit Larry at Sierra (and the series’ newest instalment, Wet Dreams Don’t Dry, came out in November, and it’s surprisingly good – we’d even go as far that it’s a sleeper hit!). The veteran developer wants to sell more of his items, as „none of his kids wants his junk”, which is why he listed them on eBay – but be warned, most of the items (such as Leisure Suit Larry‘s source code) are on thousands of dollars worth of bids!
If you want to use these items, you might need a 5.25″ floppy disk drive, something that the Commodore 64 had back in the day for example. We have to point out Lowe’s comment, though: „Realize that, while you’ll have my data as of the day of Larry 1’s creation, you will not own the intellectual property rights to the game, the code, the art, or anything else. Nor do I. The IP rights were sold over and over again until a German game company now owns them.” (Indeed, Leisure Suit Larry: Wet Dreams Don’t Dry was developed by a German dev team.)
So if you have some money, you can bid on the items until December 10, but they might cost you a fortune!
