Epic Games, who recently announced their online store, where developers would get a higher cut of the revenue (88%), rather focuses on Fortnite instead.
The new Unreal Tournament, which uses Unreal Engine 4, was announced by Epic in 2014 with a free-to-play model. However, the game hasn’t been completed since, and it looks like it isn’t going to happen any time soon either. Tim Sweeney, the founder of Epic Games, told Variety why this is the case: „Unreal Tournament remains available in the store but isn’t actively developed. We’ve recently worked with GOG on making classic Epic Games titles available, and we’re planning to bring more of them to the store in their original glory.”
The situation is due to Fortnite‘s success: Epic focuses on the game that is financially beneficial for the company, but if we think about it, perhaps one or two months of the battle royale game’s profit could cover the lifetime development of Unreal Tournament.
So if you were waiting for the new UT game to be completed, prepare to be disappointed…
