The My PS4 Life feature isn’t good for just telling you how much time you spent on a game…
Gamstat has a method of extrapolating users of a game by the number of people who acquired the rarest trophy (which is usually the Platinum). As an example, they mentioned No Man Sky’s Cradle trophy, earned by 28.9% of the users according to playstation.com. My PS4 Life reveals that 1142392 people got the trophy, and the site then did some quick math, figuring out by these two stats that 3952913 players or roughly four million users own Hello Games’ No Man Sky.
The trick here is that you can’t get far with new games with this extrapolation, and with titles whose rare trophies are low (such as 0.1%), the method wouldn’t work. Let’s take a look at some of their numbers. All numbers are international, except Fortnite, which is limited to Europe and Australia only.
- Call of Duty: WWII – 24,600,000
- Call of Duty: Black Ops IIII – 9,230,000
- Detroit: Become Human – 2,440,000
- Fallout 76 – 407,000
- FIFA 18 – 32,500,000
- FIFA 19 – 12,500,000
- Fortnite – 16,200,000
- Grand Theft Auto V – 51,700,000
- Minecraft – 25,600,000
- No Man’s Sky – 3,950,000
- Overwatch – 10,200,000
- Red Dead Redemption 2 – 6,110,000
- Rocket League – 22,600,000
Decent numbers, but we’ll be honest, we laughed at Fallout 76’s count – only 407 thousand people in a month is quite the disappointment…
